More NFL Players Demand their Contract be Paid in Bitcoin

Will you like to get paid in Bitcoin? It will seem that American Football stars are answering in the affirmative. As it is, two American football players had expressed the desired to be paid in Bitcoin.  NFL quarterback Matt Barkley had even asked that two of his previous teams pay his contract in Bitcoin. Anthony Pompliano had brought the news to the crypto twitter community informing them that “Matt is just one of many bitcoiners that are playing in the NFL on Sundays.”

Anthony who is the Co-founder and partner at Morgan Creek had tweeted that Matt Barkley had tried to get the San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals to pay his contracts in Bitcoin and his request was denied. While Anthony had made his tweet two weeks ago, it has caused a ripple in the NFL waters.  Russell Okung, LA Chargers Offensive Tackle had earlier taken up the challenged a day before putting up a tweet post which says: “Pay me in Bitcoin”.

Okung goes on to put up another tweet saying, “How dope would it be to see an ESPN headline with an athlete being paid in $BTC?”  While Okung was still trying to find out where everyone traded their crypto, he gets a recommendation of Bittrex from one of his followers. Soon enough, the exchange responds saying, “Hi Russell – great to connect with you! We’d love to introduce you to Bittrex. Feel free to reach out to us via DM.”
Similar to Okung’s experience, Crypto-Twitter were full of praises and advice for Matt crypto hardware wallet provider, Trezor even offered Barkley and his team-mates free hardware wallets. Surprisingly, Barkley replied that he was “all about @Ledger”. He even adds that he is already mining cryptocurrency.

More players are becoming interested in receiving their pay in crypto as revealed by Okung who tweeted recently that, “A couple of players are hitting me up about Bitcoin. Yes, I’m serious!” This is an impressive development as Okung happens to be the Vice President of the NFL Players Association, a body which represents the players’ interests.” Pushing for workers salary in crypto will be easy considering the fact that platforms such as Bitwage exists.
