In the spirit of crypto adoption, it may seem that e-commerce giant eBay has caught the adoption bug. While social media giant Facebook has removed its embargo on crypto related ads, eBay is also advertising cryptos at the Consensus 2019 conference in New York.
Consensus 2019, an annual event that creates a forum for blockchain and crypto members to debate and deliberate on issues relating to the industry kicked off in Manhattan, New York today. It was in this event that eBay, an event sponsor, displayed its interest in crypto of through a promotional ad that reads “Virtual Currency. Its happening on eBay”
While this may be proof that the e-commerce giant is interested in utilising the blockchain in its business, there is yet to be a confirmation from the company. The images which were first seen on Telegram channel @PatronsOfTheMoon appears to be leaked and an official statement is yet to be gotten from the company. However, if this is an endorsement of crypto by eBay, crypto adoption is definitely moving forward.
eBay which has almost 180 million customers might just be opening its shores to cryptocurrencies. It also seems that eBay is also eyeing the digital collectables marketplace. eBay has had its eyes set on crypto payments since 2017 and has even been widely linked to bitcoin payment gateway UTRUST. Although they do not currently accept bitcoin.
As it is eBay may be ditching PayPal with its acceptance of cryptos. eBay and PayPal started as part of the same company before splitting in 2015. Although eBay utilises Adyen, it still has a deal up to 2023 with PayPal. While PayPal is trending cautiously towards cryptos, eBay seems to want to explore the world of digital currencies.
Anyway, Consensus 2019 has a line-up of notable figures in the crypto space, such as Ryan Selkis, CEO of Messari and SEC Commissioner, Hester Peirce. eBay is not the only one with an eye-catching news at surprising reveal isn’t the only major news from Consensus, Flexa is launching in app at Consensus Monday event. The crypto payments startup also hinted at the conference that there is the likelihood of a partnerships with Bed, Bath, & Beyond, Nike and Starbucks.
